Wilton Mickey Mouse Cake Pan

I am thoroughly pleased with this product. The quality of the pan is good, it is nice and sturdy. The instructions included are very thorough and easy to follow. I followed the included recipe for the buttercream icing and it couldn't have been more perfect for the job. I was able to find the two decorating tips required at Walmart for under five dollars. I ordered the Mickey icing colors set from Amazon.com which worked out wonderfully. The pan transferred the guidelines just fine for me. I coated the pan with Crisco using a paper towel, then put flour in a salt shaker to evenly distribute it. Both times I've used this method I have had no issues.I submitted an image because I was proud of the outcome! So here are some tricks I learned from making a test cake. The whole baking and decorating process took me nearly 8 hours to complete. I had to prepare as much as I could the night before but with the black icing it makes it hard because it wants to start bleeding in with the skin toned icing around it. You can do all the star tip and piping work in advance (about 12 hours but no more than 1 day) but save the whites of the eyes and the black pupils for last! Also, for the tongue I used fondant that I dyed then molded and put in the refrigerator. It sits on the thinned out black icing, so by putting it on last it didn't soak up the black dye.If you are having trouble getting your icing black (like I did) make sure you are only working with 1 cup, it's really all you need. If you have added all the black dye to 1 cup and it still isn't black enough, try letting it sit overnight in the fridge, covered. My icing colors really set in after that.I made my cake board with red foam board. I used the cake pan to outline Mickey's head onto the foil then cut it out. I attached the foil with glue dots to the board. I then used 1.5" ribbon that was cinched(may not be correct terminology) with red thread. It came out so cute!

Love it!
