Love the products from this company. Originally purchased 2 to make a cake sphere but the size was a bit too large for my project. Instead I use this size to make cake/ice cream bombes. The pans bake evenly and clean up easily. The one thing -- I wish these came with a baking ring to stabilize the pan in the oven. I had to improvise on that end.

I bought this pan to make a half-globe cake, and it worked for that purpose. There were several drawbacks, some already mentioned but also some new ones I wish I'd known before buying:-- even with a buttered and floured interior surface the cake stuck to the pan; as I attempted a standard flip-and-release maneuver the first third or so of the cake started to tear free. I had to use a silicone spatula to separate the cake from the pan. It came out and in the proper shape, more or less, and in the end it wasn't a problem as I turned it into a layer cake (more frosting is good) but the cake surface was quite rough.-- the pan is round at the bottom (obviously) so you will need something to keep it upright in the oven. I used a smallish casserole dish as a base, but could have used a mound of dried rice or beans instead.-- cooking times: as mentioned in other reviews the pan comes with no instructions, so I had to wing it on batter quantity and cooking times. I used a standard cake recipe, good for two 8/9" round layers, and this filled up the pan enough to give me the half-globe I was looking for (with no overflow). Because it was a lot of batter in one pan, though, I reduced the oven temperature from 350F to 325F and had to double the cooking time. I've made this particular recipe in two 9" round pans before (35 minutes) and in a large sheet pan (40 minutes), but in this pan it took ~75 minutes to cook through.-- the resulting cake is quite thick and is accordingly much slower to cool than a typical layer; not a big deal unless you happen to be running two hours behind for a birthday party;)

I got this to make a pirate face cake for my son. It is a good product and works well but would have loved for it to come with suggested baking temperature and times. I ended up using the temp stated on the cake box but it took over and hour to bake the cake. Also- there is no support for the pan so I had to use a small glass bowl to balance it in while it baked.
