I purchased these thinking they would be perfect for the miniature cakes I needed for a party. These are advertised and described as cake pans, round 4" pans. That is not accurate. They're only 4" across the flat bottom. The edges of the pan flare out wider than that, so that when you up-end the pans to remove your cakes, the measurement across the top of the cake will be much smaller than the base. You can't stack these to make layers, and you can't smooth fondant onto them, because the sides of the cake taper outwards. You end up with a ridiculous-looking thing that looks like somebody took a pointy witch's hat and sliced off the top 2\3ds, leaving you with the bottom base of a cone. I tried to trim off the excess to make an actual cake shape with straight sides but I didn't have a cookie cutter of the correct size and had to use a knife, and I ended up cutting off a lot more cake than I meant to because I kept making it uneven and having to cut more to even it out. The whole thing was a debacle that I tossed into the trash. These "cake" pans would be great if they were used as pie pans, because that is what they are. I actually have a set of the mini Norpro pie pans and use them all the time to make tiny baby pies that are adorable. If I wanted another set of those, I'd have bought another set. What I wanted were CAKE pans, so I purchased these thinking I'd get cake pans. Gee, what was I thinking? Total waste of money, I don't need more pie pans.

Realize before you buy these that these are small, REAL small. 4in by 1.25in is TINY for a cake. Most recipes that call for 8in pans will need to cut 1/8 the amount to fit in these little cake pans. Also the sides are slightly tapered out. Making them more fit for small pies or tarts and flan... then say miniature cakes which I made. I had to trim the edges after they were done to get them to stack on top of each other straight. But they worked just fine, cooked evenly and all that. I lined it with a little bit of parchment and butter and they slid out easily enough (not w/o a little tapping and such). All in all I'm rather pleased with my product :)

Very disappointed. These are NOT straight side cake pans. They're shaped for better use as individual deep dish pie pans. There is almost a half inch difference between the bottom measurement and top, which is actually four inches. If you tried to make a two layer cake (as I had intended) it would end up shaped like and hour glass. (Typical bottom layer down, top layer up.)Returning item, as I already have miniature pie pans and don't need more.
